On last month's US Tour, Guruji was honored by Houston by proclaiming Him Honorary Citizen and a Goodwill Ambassador of the city. In Atlanta, Georgia, Sri Sri was presented the Phoenix Award, the highest award given by the Office of the Mayor of Atlanta. This is the second time Gurudev has been honoured with the prestigious award. In Irving, Texas, October 29 was declared Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Day.

The Art of Living has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Houston and the Mayor’s Council on Wellness to promote health and wellness in the city. Under the MoU, the Art of Living will bring its effective stress relief and service programmes to the people of Houston, an Art of Living release said here. The MoU was signed this week, at a time when the US is undergoing financial turmoil and has elections round the corner. Signed between the Mayor of Houston Bill White and Guruji, it will include specific programmes for city youth, returning war veterans, and prisoners among others.

Gurudev delivered a keynote address on human rights and religion at a function hosted by the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and the Institute of Comparative Human Rights at the University of Connecticut. He also delivered a keynote address at a wellness symposium at the University of North Texas in Dallas. He addressed physicians, scientists and other people at various universities and celebrated Diwali in Dallas with more than 4000 people.
